INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Templates

All manuscripts submitted to Scalpelium must be formatted according to the templates available on the journal’s website. Authors submitting systematic reviews or meta-analyses should use the Original Article template.

Language and Format

All manuscripts must be written in clear, high-quality American English. Authors whose manuscripts may benefit from additional language editing—whether recommended by the Editor or self-identified—are encouraged to use a provisional English Language Editing service to correct grammatical or spelling errors and ensure proper scientific English usage. Authors must also ensure that their writing is free from bias, stereotypes, slang, references to dominant cultures, or cultural assumptions. Manuscripts should be written with gender neutrality in mind, and authors should avoid personal phrasing such as "we conducted a study," opting instead for more objective constructions like "a study was conducted."

All submissions must include the following sections according to the provided templates: Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Declarations. Tables and Figures must be embedded directly within the text at appropriate locations. Please ensure that your manuscript complies with the specific formatting requirements based on the type of submission (Original Article or Review Article).

References

References should be cited in the text using consecutive numbers in square brackets, in the order of their first appearance (e.g., [1], [2]). For multiple citations, use a hyphen to indicate a range (e.g., [1–3]). References must be listed in numerical order at the end of the manuscript. Journal names should be abbreviated according to the Medline format.

Follow the formats below when preparing your references:

Tables and Figures

Tables should be submitted as editable text (not as images) and embedded directly within the main text, positioned close to where they are first referenced. Number tables consecutively in the order they appear in the manuscript, and include any relevant notes below the table body. Avoid duplicating data already described in the text. Please do not use vertical lines or shaded cells in table formatting.

Figures must be of high resolution and designed with clarity and consistency. All text within figures should use the Avenir font. When using color, authors are encouraged to incorporate the official Scalpelium color palette, ensuring that at least one prominent color aligns with the journal’s identity.

Figures created in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, or Excel) should be submitted in their original, editable formats. For figures developed in non-Microsoft applications, please export and submit them as TIFF or JPEG files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The editorial team reserves the right to request figure revisions to meet publication standards.
